Woodlands Road

Warrick got in touch through the website a month or so ago. He made no bones about the fact they had been actively culling the peafowl there. I was not in a huge hurry to get there since hunted birds are difficult to cull. We made it over 11 November and he showed us around before dark. We did not get a chance to drive all of the tracks before dark but we saw enough to cover on the first night. There were males calling and we picked out four hotspots to target. We found some birds and quite a few were in really difficult places to shoot them. That is typical of a block under pressure. Unfortunately, we shot and lost four big males which happens from time to time. But we did pick up three big peacocks and two blue heads so it was well worth the trip. Mostly, it was good to get our first block in Waihi and make a new contact. We will be back there soon to finish the job as best we can.

The next property over had a significant number of birds calling; they obviously are not being actively hunted. We have access there too so will be there on the next cull.
