Pihitia Again

15-17 September

We drove over to Gisborne from Whakatane Friday evening. I was targeting peafowl and Steve would take the kids to look for a deer.

We had a good night on the peafowl despite the wind. It was blowing a gale all weekend.

The next day I processed while Dan and Jack harvested some turkeys. They are past their prime so they only targeted males. Steve and kids went out again after no luck the night before. They wound up with Kadin getting his first pig.

Steve took the kids to set the hinaki to catch a few eels to smoke.

The next night was blowing even more but the possums were out big time. Dylan picked up a red deer and we got some more birds.

On the last day we were processing the remaining birds when Dylan spotted a deer across the valley. Steve took Jack and he almost got a shot before the yearling was spooked by cows.

Great weekend and it will be nice to have a little pork and venison. We always share the proceeds.
