Frank is back. He had a great day on the river last year. Unfortunately, the river was still a bit high and dirty from the recent rain. We went up to the top of Aniwhenua and the water was plenty clear to fish. He used a tiny (1/32 ounce) tube jig on his custom built rod. It was a fly rod blank with a spinner reel and braid. We found feeding fish moving out of the deeper, stained water and into the shallow clear stuff and feeding actively. Once we figured it all out it was fish after fish and almost all sight fishing. Eventually I tied on an olive marabou damsel nymph off the bend of the jig hook. It was all on. The biggest challenge was working the jig over the shallow weed beds to sighted browns without getting caught up. So much action...
