Down the River with Blair

Submitted by Dave on

It was a beauty of a day yesterday. The river was the lowest we have seen it in ages. We went down the river with only foam line risers in mind. It is fully that time of year when the trout line up and sip flies off the surface all day long. Of course Blair had to bring a spinner and caught trout after trout while I watched for risers. We set up Blair's crappy fly rod with a rubber legged pheasant tail nymph below a parachute black cricket. They both worked. A willow grub below the cricket worked too. I had fun casting an Adams irresisitible to a sighted rainbow in a side creek. He came up so many times and rejected the fly. After about 30 drifts he took it. I made him believe there was a hatch on. In reality it was mostly caddis flies on the water today. We still used different flies such as a wasp dry and a new, bead head olive damsel nymph, and the new cdc mayfly emerger. The last fish Blair got was on an elk hair caddis, fooling a brown in crystal clear spring water. It was very impressive for Blair. We had fun and we live the best lifestyle that has ever been lived. And yes, I wade bare foot.
